Kyoto has one of the highest student populations in Japan, which means cheap studio flats and student-priced food are everywhere, and the grid streets make the city rideable by bicycle. But there are only two subway lines, so which one you live near shapes daily life more than in most cities.
Shijo-Kawaramachi河原町
Kyoto's busiest center. Department stores, covered arcades and restaurants are all on foot, and the Hankyu limited express runs to Osaka. Unbeatable for convenience, though rents run high for the city.

Saiin西院

Demachiyanagi出町柳

Nijo二条
